The 2015 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is missing some energy and delineation on the nose, the winemaking overshadowing the terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin. A sinewy Clos de Vougeot that is just missing some grace and elegance on the clumsy finish. I was one of several participants who had reservations about this wine, and I will seek to revisit it. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Bright dark red. Very ripe but laid-back aromas of black cherry, licorice and mocha. Impressive dense and powerful but rather refined for Clos Vougeot, conveying a youthfully medicinal quality to its black cherry, dark berry and licorice flavors. This this classically dry, deep wine is less strict and severe than Clos Vougeot can often be, but it's still more Clos-Vougeot than 2015 in character. Finishes very long and alive, but I still give the edge to its young 2016 sibling today for that wine's charm and elegance.
Fairly light nose – unexpectedly. Broad, sweet, ripe fruit. Flattering. Lots of impressive ripeness and density. Bright and sweet. (JR)
