The 2015 Morey-Saint-Denis Village is excellent, wafting from the glass with notes of cassis, red plums, cinnamon, grilled meat and espresso roast that evokes the red Burgundies of yesteryear. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, succulent and open-knit, with fine, melting tannins, a sapid core of fruit and a long, lingering and savory finish. This doesn't have quite the depth of the Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echézeaux, but it's an exceptional bottle of Morey.

Cask sample. Mid crimson. Ripe red fruits but smells fresher than the Coteaux Bourguignons – a better sample perhaps. That same ripe/acid contrast on the palate, but better balanced overall. (JH)
