The 2015 Vosne-Romanée Villages, which hails from the lieu-dit of Bas Mazières, is a lovely wine, opening in the glass with pretty notes of cherry, rose petal and black tea. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and vibrant, with an ample core of succulent fruit and a chassis of fine tannin which is beginning to gently assert itself as this begins to shut down. Lavish and dramatic in barrel, this Vosne now shows a level of tension and energy that augers very well for its evolution.

Moderately saturated bright red. Slightly high-toned, inky aromas of black cherry, dark berries, spices and licorice. Juicy on entry, then quite creamy and even a bit exotic in the middle palate following the 2016s at this address. In a thicker style but with good supporting energy. Finishes with firm, slightly dry tannins.

(15% new oak; from a single parcel of 35-to-40-year-old vines in the lieu-dit Basses Maizières, where yields were normal in 2015): Bright medium red, a bit less saturated than the village Chambolle. Aromas of dark raspberry and flowers. Offers a lovely combination of sucrosité and energy, with the dark cherry and berry flavors complemented by a note of bitter chocolate. Finishes sappy and tight, with good medicinal reserve but slightly dry tannins. Today I give the edge to the Chambolle.

(this has some young vines 1ers added to a blend of 90% Basses Maizières and 10% Les Vigneux). Enough wood to remark upon frames an expressive and well-layered nose of Asian-style tea, plum, violet and a lovely array of spice elements. The succulent and caressing medium-bodied flavors possess fine mid-palate concentration that buffers the moderately firm tannins shaping the balanced and delicious finale. This too is very good for its level. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
