Leathery, liquorice, fragrant and potent. Seems a little brief on the finish – and while a slight stem character lends an attractive light herbyness, there’s something just a bit lean overall. Even so, delicious flavour and purity. (RH)

The 2015 Chambolle Musigny Village, which I tasted from a two-year-old barrel and will be matured in 30% new oak overall, has a ripe blackberry and boysenberry-scented bouquet, a little opaque at the moment yet nicely defined. The palate is chewy on the entry with quite thickset tannin, a muscular village cru with good density, though personally I discerned a little more tension from the Hautes Côtes de Nuits Rouge. I would like to see more Pinoté develop by the time of bottling.

Ripe aromas of black cherry possess a slightly exotic character with additional nuances of orange peel, tea, violet and lavender. The rich and generously proportioned flavors are quite fleshy and seductive thanks to the abundant dry extract that buffers the moderately firm tannins shaping the delicious and solidly persistent finale. The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes offers a slightly more complex fruit profile over the regular Chambolle, black and red mixed together, blackberry, raspberry coulis, hints of marmalade and orange rind. There's more going on here and the aromatics are more involving. The palate is medium-bodied with a sorbet-fresh opening, lively and tensile with vivid red cherries and blackberry towards the energetic finish. This year, there would seem to be quite a gap between the older and younger vines. This is excellent. Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2018-2030
