From 65 year old vines. Fruity and spicy on the nose with a core of black fruit with huge density, richness and concentration. Brooding, deep and with firm tannins that soon yield, fanning out across a sweeping, deeply satisfying finish.

Cask sample. Two parcels, vines 65 years old. Mid to deep crimson. Redder fruited than the Songes, ripe and sweet on the nose with light peppery spice. Rounded, soft tannins, could do with just a little more freshness on the finish perhaps. (JH)

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin "Les Jouises" Vieilles Vignes underwent ageing in slightly less new oak than the regular Vieilles Vignes at 25%, and includes 55% whole bunch fruit. It has a crisp and well-defined bouquet with hints of crushed rose petal infusing the red berry fruit—cranberry and a hint of juniper. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, something almost a little Oriental here, a tang of hoisin tincturing the finish that feels harmonious and sustained in the mouth. This is an involving Gevrey-Chambertin that will age with style.

The Gevrey Les Jouises is made from village vineyards located mainly south of the Gevrey village i.e. towards the grand cru vineyards. It’s comes from the following vineyards: Jouise and Fourneau – also old wines planted between 1950 and 1955. The nose is very expressive offering red fruits spiced with cinnamon and a earthy minerality – quite floral. On the palate refined and juicy for this level .. very generous and airy .. just so enjoyable. Jun 2016, www.winehog.org
