Tasting notes
Thierry Glantenay's 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets wafts from the glass with a ripe mélange of red and black cherries, wild blueberries, plum preserve and asphalt that seems a bit more sun-kissed than it did from barrel. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, supple and expansive, with velvety tannins, nice mid-palate amplitude and a fine-grained, stony finish. It's an excellent wine, though I expected a touch more energy and precision: from bottle, this Caillerets evokes the 1990 vintage.

Planted in early 1960s (better than the SO4 grafts of the 1980s). 70% whole bunch! His most beautiful grapes apparently. Exciting tension on the nose. Dense and spreads most invitingly across the palate. Much more savour and subtlety than the other 2015s at this address. A successful experiment! Very pure, very Volnay and beautifully balanced. Excellent finesse. So clean and pure! (JR)
