Tasted blind, the 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut Saint-Jacques also put in a terrific performance, bursting with notes of raspberries, peony, sweet forest floor and grilled squab. On the palate, the wine is supple, medium to full-bodied and elegant, with wonderful purity, succulent acids and a long, fragrant finish. It's a classy, even subtle Lavaut Saint-Jacques, but there's plenty of sneaky substance here too.
Rich and sweet but with good drive too. Thick and solid. (JR)
(aged in 30% new oak): Good medium red. Sexy, quintessential Gevrey aromas of boysenberry, violet, licorice and leather. At once silky and penetrating, with nicely integrated acidity framing and energizing the flavors of black cherry, boysenberry and violet. Shows the wildness I found in most of the 2015s at this address, but finishes with fine-grained tannins and lovely length. According to to Duroché, the pHs range from 3.5 to 3.65 in 2015.
