Score 91+/100 · Drink 2024-2034, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2018

Deep red-ruby. Superripe aromas of raspberry, blueberry, coffee and mocha, with an element of smoky minerality providing lift. A very dense, rich, chocolatey style, with thick dark fruit flavors showing serious intensity and plenty of verve. An emerging violet element brings more vivacity to the nose and palate of this very concentrated wine, made from a very small crop due to coulure . Finishes long and firm, with tannins dusting the front teeth.

Bright medium ruby. Slightly reduced but lucid scents of blueberry, blackberry and violet, plus a faintly inky, toasty quality that may be from the 50% new oak. By far the suavest and finest-grained of these 2015s to this point, offering lovely sweetness and silky texture to the dark berry and bitter chocolate flavors. The tannins are more horizontal and arrive later, allowing the savory finishing flavors to linger and build. These 80+-year-old vines yielded just 18 hectoliters per hectare owing to substantial coulure , noted Meunier, who finds that both of his 2015 Chambolles are more tannic than usual, but that this one has supporting richness to spare. The pH here is a low 3.29.

(a blend that is mostly from Les Chatelots with the remainder from Les Feusselottes). Reduction. The succulent yet well-detailed medium-bodied flavors exhibit more evident minerality on the relatively supple mid-palate before concluding in a mouth coating finish that is also shaped by relatively fine-grained tannins.
