Tasting notes
Bright, dark red-ruby. Superripe, complex aromas of black raspberry, black cherry and licorice complicated by subtle soil tones. Sweeter and creamier than the cuvée classique and much more approachable today owing to its sheer sucrosité and depth. This beautifully balanced wine's thick, concentrated fruit covers its substantial building tannins on the very long, slowly mounting finish.

Cask sample. Organic. Deep cherry red. A little more spice and intensity and less seductive sweetness than the Cuvée Classique. More oaky on the palate, flatter somehow, as if the fruit has been a subdued by the oak. Certainly less seductive than the Cuvée Classique at the moment and needs more time. (JH)
Dark red with ruby tones. Penetrating aromas and flavors of black cherry and minerals. Wonderfully creamy and deep but with a compelling juiciness to leaven its velvety sweetness. Utterly mouthcoating thickness here as well as outstanding spicy depth and impeccable balance. Finishes with powerful tannins and great persistence. And bone-dry in spite of its strong impression of sucrosité . This will age for a long time. Labet described this wine as "like drinking through a funnel: we feel the pressure but it's coming through a small hole."
The Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2015 is taking it to another level of refinement. The nose offers juicy red and darker fruits, a lovely spiciness and a very fine view to the earthy minerality. On the palate, focused, pure and vibrant for the vintage. Impressive intensity yet it’s paired with an effortless lightness … a truly magnificent Clos de Vougeot in the making.
