The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Cailles 1er Cru has an attractive, open-knit, almost warm bouquet of lovely raspberry and crushed strawberry scents and hints of marmalade and fig. The palate is very well balanced, with firm, saturated tannins that lend both fatness and velvety texture. Fortunately, the acidity is such that it retains admirable balance and there is enormous depth toward the finish. Great potential. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles is one of the highlights of Bouchard's red portfolio in 2015, offering up a complex nose of orange rind, squab, red and black fruit, strawberry and rose petal. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with creditable depth and length, structured around fine-grained but firm tannins that assert themselves on the classically Nuits finish. While more might have been possible in the 2015 vintage, this is an excellent wine.

Bright medium red. Slightly brooding, mineral-driven aromas of dark raspberry, crushed rock and rose petal; with aeration, this premier cru showed good floral lift and a piquant note of blood orange. Dense, spicy and modestly sweet, displaying the fullness of the vintage along with elements of sour cherry and saline minerality. Finishes firm and savory, with tongue-dusting tannins and lovely subtle rising length. Delivers impressive density without excess weight.
