Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Oct 2017

“Les Chabiots” is a very small vineyard, as the above map shows. Rarely seen, the location really couldn’t be better, and in a vintage as good as 2015, this is a big steer. Having tasted it yesterday afternoon, our buying team moved to secure all that is remaining in Bichot’s cellars, something that we very rarely do. It’s that good. Glossy, silky ruby color. Refined nose of enticing ripe red fruits, hints of wild flowers and fresh minerality. The complexity and depth of the sultry aromas are hard to resist, keep you coming back to the glass. Palate has beautiful elegance, a concentrated fruit core framed by the silkiest of tannins and driven by vivid acidity. Superb summer fruits on the ethereal finish, serious and very long. Outstanding, a baby Amoureuses.

This is aromatically quite similar to the Sentiers with perhaps just a bit more floral character. The lacy and lilting middle weight flavors dance across the palate and while this isn’t particularly dense, it is undeniably pretty and very Chambolle in style. Note that this too needs to add some depth but I believe it will if given a few years of cellar time first. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com

The 2015 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Chabiots has an attractive nose marked by scents of morello cherry, wet limestone and almost Alpine-fresh aromas. There is something airy about the aromatics here. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, cohesive in the mouth with fine structure on the finish that maintains commendable precision. This will be well worth investigating once in bottle - one of Bichot's more sophisticated offerings in this vintage. Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com
