Bright red with ruby tones. High-toned nose began a bit roasted but aeration brought very good lift to the aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, licorice and minerals. Rather full in the middle but difficult to taste today as it's considerably more saline than the Fuées, with its fruit sweetness currently in the deep background. (From barrel this wine was a bomb of dark fruits and showed terrific savory energy.) Finishes very long, with serious tannic thrust and surprising verve. This wine is earthbound and salty while the Fuées is airy, and it will clearly require patience.

Deep crimson. Wonderfully intense red fruit. Rich in fruit with the freshness of what tastes like a touch of whole bunch. Deep and fragrant on the palate. Firm, dry tannins, like layers of fine paper. Has both fruit and elegance and fine length. (JH)

Bright, dark red-ruby. Aromas of cherry, licorice and mint. Very sweet and thick but lively too: a bomb of cassis, blackberry and black cherry fruit. This is dense, fleshy and fruit-driven while the Fuées is tighter and more mineral. But this very long wine finishes with terrific saline energy and sophisticated tannins. Incidentally, Ghislaine Barthod is the only owner of the tiny premier cru portion of this vineyard (reclassified in 1987), which is a small depression with shallow soil.
