The 2015 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a more complex, you could say more enigmatic bouquet than the Charmes-Chambertin, darker fruit with touches of seaweed and iodine, with aeration more floral scents such as crushed violet. It feels mercurial in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a touch of dried fig and Asian spice infusing the red berry fruit. What I appreciate is the structure and especially the precision towards the finish. This is classy.

(vinified by Jadot from purchased grapes; 50% vendange entier ; one of the two barrels was new): Healthy bright red. Aromas of raspberry, rose petal, licorice and smoky oak convey an impression of medicinal reserve. Concentrated and quite backward, with the medicinal character following through on the palate. A distinctly blacker style of wine in the context of this collection, with black cherry and licorice flavors dominating. Quite tactile but the stem element accentuates the wine's serious tannins in the early going. This one is going to require a lot of patience.

Tank sample. Sold out! Very complete and appetising with really silky tannins. Great drive and persistence. Wonderful peacock’s tail on the end. (JR)
