FINE+RARE Tasting Note

Rustic, earthy nose laden with ripe dark plum. A smoothness comes through on the palate, enhanced by the ripe fruits and tannins. Somewhat disconnected in its youth but packed with good potential. A beautiful, rich finish. Oct 2016

Medium red. Less fruity and more medicinal on the nose than the Vaucrains, offering complex scents of dark raspberry, dried flowers, mocha and earth. Then plush, silky and fine-grained on the palate, offering lovely floral lift to its raspberry fruit. The firm tannins turn a touch dry with air. (This cuvée is not vinified by Jadot.)

The 2015 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges felt a little withdrawn on the nose when I tasted it, missing the depth and breeding I look for in the auspicious vineyard. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red and black fruit. There is a firm backbone here, a nascent hardness that will disappear with bottling and bottle age. It is a wine of substance that needs to muster personality and grace.

Tank sample. Lacks intensity on the nose. But it’s very charming in terms of round fruit on the palate. Some bitter cherries and life. Certainly the best of the (slightly disappointing) Nuits tasted. Dryish finish. Slight lack of energy though. (JR)
