The 2015 Chablis Grenoueilles Grand Cru is currently showing some reduction on the nose that obscures terroir . The palate is well balanced and concentrated, displaying a crisp bead of acidity; rich orange pith, marmalade and light stem ginger notes blossom toward the second half. There is good potential here, although bottle age is needed to address the reductive winemaking. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Bright, light yellow. Ripe, spicy aromas of stone and citrus fruits plus a whiff of oatmeal. More open on the front end today than the Valmur but then a bit monolithic in the middle palate, in need of time in bottle to absorb some of its considerable baby fat and to show more definition. Finishes very broad and dry, with a hint of the rather full 13.3% alcohol.

The 2015 Chablis Grand Cru Grenouilles, always one of the domain's most characterful offerings, here is composed and expressive on the nose, with slate and light sea spray aromas combining effortlessly with the citrus fruit. This feels…effortless. The palate is very harmonious and poised with good depth and focus. There are touches of hazelnut, dried quince, smoke and Chinese five spice toward the finish that has real persistence and depth. This may well turn out to be one of Benoît Droin’s best 2015s.
