The 2015 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru has a fragrant, lightly oaked bouquet with a touch of reduction that works well. The taut, linear palate is well balanced, presenting a fine bead of acidity and hints of orange peel and stem ginger. The feisty, rather exuberant finish needs to manifest more mineralité and focus. Give this two or three years to calm down a little. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Light-medium yellow. Nose dominated by musky stony minerality. Tightly wound and powerful but a bit hard-edged in the early going, offering classically dry citrus, menthol and white pepper flavors. This fruit appears to have been picked earlier than ideal owing to the hailstorm and its hint of bitterness will take time to knit. Finishes with a slightly phenolic dusty quality. More disjointed than the Vaudésir today but ultimately more minerally.
The 2015 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur has a clean and precise bouquet with scents of yellow flower, nectarine and white peach—all very seductive and pure. The palate is clean and precise with a fine thread of acidity, a subtle marine influence coming through and a precise, quite spicy finish that lingers long in the mouth. Seems to have improved since I tasted this grand cru in barrel.
