The 2015 Saint Joseph Le Paradis Saint Pierre is another blockbuster from this young vigneron that's up with some of the best Saint Josephs ever made. Currants, roasted meats, beef and tons of mineral notes all flow to a concentrated, ripe, powerful wine that has beautiful concentrated, notable purity and ample underlying structure. It’s going to take 5-6 years for this puppy to shed some baby fat, but it’s just packed with Cornas goodness. I continue to love the wines from the young Jerome Coursodon, who pulls from roughly 16 hectares of vines all in the southern part of Saint Joseph, mostly just outside the village of Mauves. The 2015s are monster, blockbuster styled efforts that I suspect won’t appeal to the traditionalists out there, but are singular wines. The 2016s are more elegant and finesse-driven, yet still pack in more sweet fruit than just about everyone else out there.

The 2015 Saint Joseph le Paradis Saint Pierre tastes purple. Purple and vanilla. Plum, blueberry and purple raspberry notes are full-bodied, rich, velvety and long on the finish. Give it a couple of years in the cellar, and drink it over the following decade.
(from vines more than 60 years old; aged in barriques , 80 percent of them new, for 15 months) Bright violet. Primary cherry, cassis, pungent flowers and olive on the highly perfumed nose, accompanied by hints of cracked pepper and licorice in the background. Sweet and seamless in texture, offering concentrated black and blue fruit and spicecake flavors that unfold slowly with aeration. In a powerful but lively style and extremely youthful now. Aeration brings up vanilla and floral pastille qualities that carry through the very long, velvety, subtly tannic finish, which leaves behind a sweet dark berry note.
Shiny red robe. The bouquet is nicely full, gives oak toast with a sturdy but sleek inlay of black berry fruit, shows some licorice. It’s young and promising. The palate bears very well juiced black berry fruit with a liberal delivery, this way and that. The oak takes over towards the finish. Modern St Jo, almost a New World style with the variety on top of the terroir at present. The light crunch of the grainy tannins on the finish is the one local clue to its origins.
