Palish ruby. Tangy, supple fruit with chewy tannins. Succulent, sweet raspberry and cherry on the finish. Very flattering and appetising. (WS)

Il Poggione's 2014 Rosso di Montalcino is classy, polished and refined. Sweet tobacco, licorice, smoke and dark spices add layers of nuance to a core of silky dark fruit in a perfumed, slender Rosso that will drink well for the next handful of years. This is one of the better 2014 Rossos I have tasted so far. The 2014 was aged mostly in cask, with the addition of around 20% French oak.
