Tasting notes
Inky ruby. Ripe black and blue fruit, mocha and cola aromas show excellent clarity and pick up a spicy quality in the glass. Supple and round on the palate, offering intense cherry liqueur, blueberry, vanilla and spicecake flavors that become livelier with air. Smooth, even tannins sneak in late on a very long, sweet finish that echoes the blue fruit and spice notes.

The 2012 Antiguos Viñedos (old vineyards) shows great freshness for a warm, ripe vintage like 2012, which resulted in more vibrant wines than initially expected. The cooler zone of Quintana de Pidio and the old vines provided a very good balance to the conditions of the season, and the naturally balanced juice took the oak aging very well (14 months in second use French barriques). There is great balance, concentration and intensity here, very fine tannins and enough freshness. A classic Ribera.

Tempranillo. 70 year old vines planted on sandy soils in Quintana del Pidio (Burgos). Aged for 14 month in barrels. Ripe black fruit, a bit soapy and dominated by toasty oak. Austere and drying on the palate. A bit disjointed with tannins dominating over the fruit. Bitter finish. (FC)
