2004 Pinot Bianco Rarita

Tasting notes
With only 3,300 bottles produced, the 2004 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Rarity is part of a special release of wines that are aged on the lees in steel pressure tanks for ten years. This is a unique and special wine that is beautifully redolent of apricot, honey, crushed mineral, dried herb and light shadings of spice. The aromatic offering is profound and complex and those tertiary mineral notes are certainly showing nicely. The wine's creamy finish is highlighted by pretty flavors of lemon zest and candied orange peel. This Pinot Bianco is built to age for ten years or more.

I am happily impressed with the entire line of new releases offered by Cantina Terlano. Two wines stand out. The first is the 2004 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Rarity that gives solid evidence for the excellent aging potential of this white grape. The 2013 Alto Adige Terlano I Grande Cuvée is just at the start of its evolution but offers great promise for its future aging. The price tags on these two wines are very steep as they represent special bottlings and unique productions. Jul 2016, www.erobertparker.com, Drink: 2016-2028
