Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Folatières has a well defined precise bouquet with vibrant citrus fruit, cold stone, just a small amount of reduction but great focus. The palate is well balanced with crisp citrus fruit, nicely focused with good depth and fruit concentration, the mineralité coming through right on the finish. This is one of the better Folatières this year without doubt. Tasted May 2016.

Cask sample. Aroma much cleaner and zestier than the Blagny Sous le Dos d'Âne. Delicately toasty, ripe citrus, freshness only just the right side of tart. Intense and primary, currently rather one-dimensional. (JH)
