It's hard to believe the Navazos adventure started ten years ago already, but that's what the NV La Bota de Palo Cortado 62 10 Años Después commemorates (10 Años Después means ten years later). They already released a special wine to celebrate their fifth anniversary (La Bota de Amontillado 26 Cinco Años Después, filled at the end of 2010, Navazos was created on Friday 9th of December 2005) - a wine that in that occasion was only a present for the original hard core foundational group. But this time, they decided to open the celebration to the public and make this one-off, unique Palo Cortado from a single cask that hadn't been refilled for years and contained no more than 350 liters of wine, available to the public. The wine comes from a winery in Chiclana, a touristy town 20 kilometers south of Cádiz that grows the southernmost vineyards belonging to the Marco de Jerez; but whose wines, if bottled there, do not belong to the appellation. So these wines from Bodegas Manuel Aragón, locally known by the nickname of "Sanatorio," do not carry the Jerez appellation. Anyway, this very old Palo Cortado is relatively gentle for its age (believed to be around 50- to 60-years-old) and 19% alcohol, nuanced, intense and complex mixing the classical aromas of nuts, orange peel, coffee and varnished woods, with a palate softened by perhaps a touch of sweetness that makes it quite gentle. It's very powerful and concentrated, a really old, elegant wine. In any case, it's a gentle giant with an eternal aftertaste mixing a bitter taste with nuts and noble woods, surprisingly elegant. 600 half-liter bottles produced. This is a true rarity, a unique wine.
