Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Petits Monts has a fragrant bouquet, much more floral in style than the Aux Reignots as wilted rose petals suffuse the crushed strawberry and raspberry fruit. There is fine detail here. The palate is medium-bodied with silky-smooth tannins, quite a bit of creamy oak, but it is totally embroidered with the red berry fruit. There is a great deal of panache about this Les Petits Monts…stylish!

The 2011 Vosne-Romanée Les Petits Monts stands out for its tannic spine and overall sense of structure. A powerful, intense Vosne, the Petits Monts hits the palate with layers of black stone fruits, sweet spices and wild flowers. A long, powerful finish rounds things out in style.

Bright crimson. Light rather finely etched nose. Sharp palate impression with quite a bit of extraction? The fruit seems simpler on this wine than on some others. Still pretty chewy on the end. Marked acidity, even some greenness. Maybe it's just too young. (JR)

Bright, deep red-ruby color. Exotic aromas of Oriental spices, chocolate and blood orange. Wonderfully creamy and harmonious in the mouth, with compelling sweetness to its dark berry, spice and blood orange flavors. Harmonious ripe acidity and obvious minerality contribute to an impression of drive and energy. Very long and suavely tannic on the back end. From 60-year-old-vines and it shows.
