Score 17.5/20 · Drink 2017-2028, Jancis Robinson MW, Nov 2014

A selection from Ormeaux of 100-year-old vines which belong to Marie-Odile’s father, Thévenot. Some were replaced from 1999. But Arnaud planted all the younger vines and picks them separately. Average yield under 30 hl/ha. ‘In 2013 it was’ (he goes to the glass door into the cuverie) ‘414 litres for 5 ouvrées’. So 20 hl/ha. Broad and rich on the front palate and lovely precision on the palate. (JR)

Healthy pale yellow. Brisk aromas of lemon drop, pineapple and grapefruit. On the palate, strong lemony intensity of flavor is complicated by subtle saline minerality, with some unabsorbed CO2 contributing to the impression of cut. Much less open to inspection than the Petits Charrons but this wine boasts terrific clarity and length.
