FINE+RARE Tasting Note

100% Marsanne made from 70 year old vines. Focused nose of lemon and beeswax, reminiscent of white Burgundy. Big, mouth-filling texture with crisp acidity to cut through the weight. Flavours of salted caramel, peach pit, sea spray and long lines of saline. Long length with impeccable concentration.

Shiny yellow colour. The nose is closed in by oaking and its grilling, within lying a deep mass and jumble of apricot, lime, peach. Despite the mass, it has good, tight and defined limits. The palate also starts with an oak-grilled delivery, but is very full, a real child of the sun, from south facing slopes. This has brilliant Hermitage richness, a mighty and glorious fat at its centre. It’s in a different league. There is a note of carbonic gas along its path, note. The finish goes long, brings in infused tea, tilleul or linden, with brioche, a little salt. Complex and provocative white Hermitage. From spring 2018: decant, serve in a large glass, and any patient cellaring will be well rewarded. For only the finest ingredients à table. Oct 2016, www.drinkrhone.com

Of the three selection parcellaire whites, the 2015 Ermitage de l’Oree is the most fresh and lively, with full-bodied richness and depth in its pineapple, mint, tropical fruits, toasted bread, brioche and liquid rock-styled aromas and flavors. It has good acidity, a stacked mid-palate and one seriously long finish. Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com
