(13.1% natural alcohol): Pale, green-tinged yellow. Vibrant aromas of lemon and lime peel, white peach and crushed herbs lifted by white flowers; very precise for a young Batard, especially from such a warm year. Wonderfully suave and brisk in the mouth, conveying a lacy texture to its citrus and stone fruit, licorice and fresh herb flavors. The resounding finish is rich, salty and very long. A wonderfully complex young Batard with outstanding potential. It's often hard to choose between Pernot's two grand crus in the early going, but not this year.

(these vines range in age from 4 to 80 years old: Lafon has seven hectares and selects the best three or four for this cuvée, with the idea of making a fresh, dry wine; aged mostly in demi-muids): Bright yellow. Elegant nose combines aromas of vineyard peach, flowers, minerals and curry (the latter a "marker" of the vintage in the Mâconnais, according to Caroline Gon), lifted by spicy oak notes of clove and nutmeg. Very rich and concentrated, with yellow peach and mineral flavors and a very firm, long finish. The crop level in 2015 was about 30 hectoliters per hectare, which Gon told me is a lot better than the 10 to 15 they got when the team started working these vineyards in 2009. About the producer
Domaine Paul Pernot is synonymous with Puligny-Montrachet. For the last 30 years, the estate – alongside Domaine Leflaive and Domaine de Montille (previously Château de Puligny-Montrachet) – has been one of the largest shareholders in the appellation.
