(raised in new French oak barrels for 19 months) Opaque, bright-rimmed ruby. Expressive, oak-spiced cherry, blackcurrant and floral pastille scents are complemented by suggestions of vanilla and candied licorice. Sweet, seamless and broad on the palate, offering intense dark berry preserve, cherry-cola and spicecake flavors and a repeating vanilla nuance. Shows excellent clarity and appealing sweetness on a long, juicy finish that features repeating spiciness and subtle, slow-building tannins.

70% Tempranillo, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Graciano. Fragrant sawdust aroma, milk chocolate and black fruit, very generous and easy and open-knit. Much more satisfying than many of the modernista riojas. (RH)

Dense black fruit that marries well with spicy new oak influence, and a touch of meaty character adding further complexity. It's very much made in the modern style, but has enough recognisable Rioja character to be authentic. Good! I preferred this to their Ygay 2007. (RH)

70% Tempranillo, 15% Graciano, 15% other varieties. Lifted vanilla scent on the nose and wonderfully pure bramble fruit on the palate. Super stuff – great flavour definition here and a long, classically oaked finish. Dense and persistent. Very good indeed. (RH)
