Dark red with ruby highlights. Slightly liqueur-like aromas of roasted dark raspberry and licorice. Sweet and concentrated but a bit raw in the early going, with the black fruit flavors showing terrific energy but some youthful toughness. Revealed more mid-palate creaminess with aeration, suggesting that this wine has very good potential. (My sample of the Marsannay Boivin seemed a bit flat and evolved and finished with dry-edged tannins.)

The 2013 Marsannay En Ouzelois is much broodier on the nose compared to the Bourgogne les Pressoniers, with touches of tar and undergrowth tincturing the black plum and raspberry fruit. The palate is well balanced and rounded in the mouth, the oak here neatly folded into the fruit, perhaps just needing a little more persistence to come through on the finish. Not a bad Marsannay at all, though it deserves another year or two in bottle.

Bright ruby-red. Crushed cassis and black cherry aromas are lifted by a violet topnote. Vibrant flavors of wild raspberry and strawberry show a lovely balance of sweetness and brisk acidity. Possesses more structure than the basic Marsannay.

The 2013 Marsannay les Ouzeloy, which comes from 80-year-old vines, has a very feminine, perfumed and floral bouquet that is really quite irresistible even at this early stage. The palate is packed full of sumptuous fruit that is more 2009 than 2013. This really captures the joie de vivre of a fine Marsannay and comes highly recommended. Dec 2014, www.robertparker.com
