The bright yellow, greenish shimmering 2013 Felseneck Riesling Spätlese opens as a serious wine with cool, fresh, spicy/smoky slate, quartzite and herbal aromas on the nose that indicate a deep and mineral as well as full-bodied and complex Riesling. The palate is impressively juicy and pure at the same time and the finish piquant and salty. Still young this Spätlese just suggests its true class and complexity which sines through in a long, piquant and grippy finish.

That same herbal note but less pronounced than on the Bockenauer Kabinett just tasted. Mineral, grapefruit, and then much riper lemon on the palate. Much sweeter than the Kabinett but with depth and texture also balancing the acidity. Ripe lemon on the long finish. (JH)
A hint of honey with a dash of lemon is not only a remedy for colds, but if delivered in a far more refined concoction of Riesling Spätlese, you won’t be able to stop your mouth from watering. But citrus is far from all the fruit counter has to offer, there are redcurrants and mirabelles as well, flavours that are sharpened by invigorating acidity. Generous, compact and long. (MS)
