East part of the Valle del Tiétar, on slate/schist. Very pale crimson. Meaty nose. Solid, grapefruit-skin flavours and lots to chew, really lots of grit. And potential. (JR)

Garnacha. Single vineyard and 70-year-old vines planted on slate and red clay soils. Wild yeast and very long fermentation for 60 days. The wine is aged in 50-litre oak barrels for 12 months. Not clarified or filtered. The nose seems slightly closed, showing a mushroom character, very ripe red fruit, leathery sensation and ash. Very pleasurable now but not sure if the leathery sensation will overshadow the fruit over time. The palate is ethereal and soft but the overall expression of the wine is already mature. (FC)

The 2013 El Reventón is one hectare at 950 meters with schist soil, darker and porous, laminated soils that are very shallow. The nose of this wine is all full of lavender, curry and other spices, more Mediterranean with some aromas reminiscent of vanilla, but the oak is not noticeable at all -- as with all of the wines here. This was harvested earlier than others, around September 15. The palate is medium-bodied, sharp and somehow austere, at least not as opulent as other years. The acidity gives it a sharp texture and a citric component that makes it very tasty and makes you salivate. 1,225 bottles produced.
