Tasting notes
The 2012 Barolo Mosconi comes across as a bit powerful and monolithic. There is no shortage of intensity, but the wine is one dimensional, which is typical of most wines from this site. Muscular, dense tannins and intense dark fruit are among the signatures. It will be interesting to see if the 2012 develops finesse.

The 2012 Barolo Mosconi is one of the big surprises of this tasting. This is a gorgeous expression with a deep and enduring sense of balance. The wine offers excellent intensity with black fruit and spice, nicely contrasted against more subtle tones of licorice, red rose and polished river stone. The tannins are firm and tight, yet they show the latitude needed for long cellar-aging.
Very delicate and aromatic with dried flowers and raspberry, blackberry undertones. Full body, yet balanced and very refined. Love the white pepper and berry aftertaste.
The 2012 Barolo Mosconi is big, powerful and explosive, with a real baritone expression of fruit and searing tannins. Mosconi is a vineyard that has historically produced chewy, rustic Barolos, and that is exactly what comes through here. Today, the Mosconi lacks the precision of the best wines in the range. Then again, wines from this site have historically needed quite a bit of bottle time to fully emerge. It will be interesting to see if the Mosconi finds a bit better balance over the coming years.
