Tasted blind. Blackish garnet. Slightly tired, dried fruit on the nose. No – that’s too harsh. It does have some life! So I will change my mark from 14.5. ( There was a particularly wide spread of scores for this wine and when its identity was revealed I wondered if it might have been an imperfect bottle). (JR)

The 2015 Palmer has an opulent, high-toned bouquet with blackberry, raspberry and cassis fruit. This is typical Palmer in many ways, though you could well argue that it's not as nuanced as the Rauzan-Ségla. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky texture, stunning balance and poise with white pepper-tinged black fruit, gentle grip and a very persistent and satisfying finish. Bon vin !

Deep ruby in colour, so much texture to this wine you really can sink into it. A fist of blueberry, raspberry and cassis fruit, with juice running right through. A sense of energy and irresistable momentum that pushes forward just as the liquorice, slate and pummice stone minerality work to pull you back in. Hard to resist, this is just a wonderfully impressive vintage, dense and structured tannins with gunsmoke, grilled cedar and a smile on the finish. Harvest September 22 to October 7.
