The 2015 Olivier offers attractive brambly black fruit mixed with briary and cedar. My feeling is that this has closed up since I tasted it just after bottling. The palate comes across a tad raw on the entry with harder tannins than before, although I suspect it will improve with continued bottle age. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

Tasted blind. Light but clean nose. Lots of pongy, green Sauvignon character. Almost painful acidity. There are quite a few (goodish) wines like this made elsewhere in the world. (JR)
Readers should not overlook the 2015 Olivier. Rich and voluptuous, it offers lovely immediacy in a soft, supple style that is sure to find many admirers. A rush of succulent black cherry, chocolate, mocha, licorice and spice infuse this supple, creamy Pessac Léognan. All the elements fall into place in a racy, effortless wine that will drink well right out of the gate. The blend is 56.4% Merlot, 40.8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2.8% Petit Verdot.
About the producer
Ch. Olivier is one of the few actual castles in Bordeaux – coming with a moat and drawbridge. Since Alexandre de Bethmann took over here in 2012, the château has been given a new lease of life, with quality on the rise.
