The 2015 La Louvière is a Pessac-Léognan that has left me scratching my head. It offers pretty red currant, strawberry and undergrowth scents on the nose, not intense, but nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with some greenness on the entry and moderate depth. That underripe note pokes through on the finish. This is a disappointment in the context of the vintage. Tasted blind. Greenish straw. Sweet, creamy nose. Really mouth-filling and well balanced. Maybe not first-growth style but very well made. Fresh but going back to it, it seemed simpler. Chewy end. (JR)
The 2015 La Louvière is absolutely delicious. The rough-edged, hearty quality the wine showed in barrel remains, and yet the 2015 has plenty of depth and pure power. Black olive, leather and smoke all flesh out, adding just enough weight on the palate to temper some of the wine's more rustic leanings.
About the producer
Wine has been made at this estate since the 1300s, but its modern history begins when the Lurton family purchased it in 1965. The property was in disrepair, but the Lurtons have restored the château, winery and vineyards.
