Il Marroneto's 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a beautifully polished and pure wine with an incredible level of charisma and energy that is especially evident in the 2011 vintage. In Montalcino, there are few people capable of expressing Sangiovese better than Alessandro Mori. He gives ample room to the grape's inner voice and its true personality. It's impossible to know who is the bigger protagonist: the grape or the winemaker. This is a traditional and elegant wine that exudes silky tannins and fine aromas of wild berry, cola and dried mint. It's the kind of wine you can drink, glass after glass, without ever feeling weighted down or overwhelmed.
Il Marroneto's 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is one of the wines of the vintage. Silky, open-knit and gracious, the 2011 boasts superb elegance and all of the finesse that is typical of Montalcino's northern sector. Rose petal, sweet red berry and lifted, minty notes grace the palate in a sensual, silky Brunello endowed with class and pedigree. The classic sense of tannin and salinity comes through on the finish, but it is the interplay of classic structure and the ripeness of the vintage that is most compelling of all. Il Marroneto's 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is without question one of the wines of the vintage.
Tasted blind. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Beguiling, balsamic, sweet cherry nose with earthy notes. Rich fruit that ends a little racy and with lots of powdery tannins. Intense and delicious. (WS)
