Tasting notes
One of the highlights of this tasting was the 2013 Corton-Renardes Grand Cru, a beautiful wine that bursts from the glass with a surprisingly expressive bouquet of wild berries, plums and spices, complemented by savory bass notes of dark chocolate, game bird and dried ceps. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with terrific concentration, racy acids and a long, penetrating finish. The combination of ultra-refined tannins and mouthwatering cut makes for a very elegant style of Corton-Renardes this year, and it will delight Burgundy purists.

A more deeply pitched nose is composed of restrained and ultra-fresh aromas of various wild dark berries, plum, earth, spice and black tea. There is good muscle to the cool and admirably pure big-bodied flavors that possess plenty of verve on the focused, austere, dusty and linear finish. Like the Rugiens this possesses just a hint of tannic edginess but again my sense is that this will come together with sufficient time in bottle though it's unlikely to ever be a charmer.<br />
About the producer

Domaine Michel Gaunoux is today run by Michel’s grandchildren, Anne and Alexandre, with a guiding hand from their mother. Everything here is extremely traditional, and the family has been quietly making rich, complex and age-worthy Pommard and Corton for over half a century.
