This wine is the little brother of the eponymous Biserno, benefiting from the same disciplined, sustainable agriculture, with minimum intervention. Winemaker and former food scientist, Helena Lindberg is tasked with interpreting the ingredients of the vineyards as faithfully as possible, assisted by her wealth of experience in Australia, New Zealand and France. Intense but fresh bordeaux blend that is the second wine of Lodovico Antinori’s estate north of Bolgheri and therefore presumably more accessible. It’s certainly giving a lot of pleasure now. (JR)

A rich, racy wine, the 2013 Il Pino di Biserno hits all the right notes. Super-ripe red cherry, raspberry, mint, sage and espresso are fused together. This is an especially succulent, juicy wine to drink now and over the next handful of years.

The 2013 Il Pino di Biserno is a gorgeous wine with a force of energy and liveliness that is uncommon to see in a wine of this extract and sophistication. Dark fruit tones of blackberry, plum and dried cherry are immediately followed by spice, leather and tobacco. The effect is soothing, intense and compelling. This is a beautiful wine from a classic vintage, but the tannins are definitely on the young side. It needs a minimum of three to five more years of cellar aging in order to show the splendor that this wine holds within.
