Fanti's 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a soft, luscious and ripe Tuscan red. You immediately feel the sunshine locked within the bold red fruit that is put on display. Black cherry, candied raspberry and spicy plum take center stage. The effect is broad, opulent and integrated. I would definitely put Fanti's newest release on a shortlist of delicious near-term Brunellos to drink with hearty pasta and wild boar sauce or grilled steak within the next five years.

The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a supple, easy going wine that will drink well early. Sweet cherry, plum, tobacco, leather, mint, French oak, dark spices and mocha meld into the fleshy, succulent finish. This is an especially forward, juicy style, but it works well.
Tasted blind. Lacklustre, impenetrable ruby. Rich, deep nose of dark and singed fruit, but some Sangiovese character manages to come through. Intense and sweet on the palate with more than a hint of dried fruit. The fruit must have been super-ripe when picked. (WS)
