The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a delicious interpretation of the vintage that shows both grace and power. The wine offers dark fruit characteristics with dried cherry, spice, leather and an evident dose of balsam herb. This pretty Brunello reveals a very smooth and silky style that caresses the palate with each extra sip. It should evolve slowly over the next ten years.

A big, tannic wine, Capanna's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is going to need a few years in the cellar to soften. Macerated dark cherries, mint, lavender, spices and earthiness gradually open up, yet the Riserva remains dominated by its acidity and tannin. Of course, that is exactly the way a young Riserva from a superb vintage should come across at this stage.
Tasted blind. Very heavy bottle! Impenetrable deep ruby with narrow orange rim. Brooding power. Enormous, breathtaking concentration. The alcohol is evident but there is loads of everything: acidity, huge concentration, bags of ripe tannins as well as a complex finish. Very big at the moment, so not to be breached for quite some time. Not for the faint-hearted. (WS)
The purity of fruit in this is very impressive with cherry and raspberry character. Full body, chewy and rich yet ultra-fine tannin texture and a long, long finish of focused and subtle fruit. Loving this. Drink or hold. Oct 2015, JamesSuckling.com
