Again that seductive quality to the fruit but a little more spice here and perhaps slightly less ripe. Peppery and full of energy. Dry, fine texture like a sheet under the fruit. Lip-smacking and moreishly fresh. Long rather than powerful. GV (JH)

The 2014 Vosne Romanée Maizières, from a vineyard whose vines were pulled up after the 2015 was harvested, has a delightful, vivacious bouquet with red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit. I like the delineation, the energy here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannins and well judged acidity. The 40% new oak just adds a touch of dark chocolate towards the finish, but I wager that there is sufficient fruit to soak it up, if given a couple of years in bottle.

Descended from the Gros family of Vosne-Romanée, Anne-Françoise Gros established her own domaine in 1988. Today her children, Caroline and Mathias Parent, run the estate, which has some impressive holdings, focused in and around Vosne-Romanée.
