Tasting notes
The 2014 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Chaumes has a perfumed bouquet with rose petal scents infusing the vibrant red cherry and strawberry. The palate is fresh and crisp with slightly rustic red berries counterpoised by a fine line of acidity. It kind of "sashays" along in an almost carefree manner before delivering a satisfying saline finish. Sensual Chaumes. Tasted November 2016.

(vinified with a small percentage of whole clusters; racked into tank three weeks ago): Bright red wth ruby tones. Lovely lift to the aromas of black fruits, leather, mocha and bitter chocolate. On the palate, juicy dark berries and spice flavors are lifted by attractive inner-mouth perfume. The stems contribute to an impresson of grip, and the tannins are firm but not dry. Finishes broad and long, with good energy.
The 2014 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Chaumes includes some whole cluster fruit (15%) this year and it really enhances the nose with bountiful freshness and precision. The palate is taut, slightly grainy on the entry, veering towards black fruit interlaced with marmalade and quince, both lending a soupçon of exoticism on the finish. This will be very seductive.
Not sold in UK. On clay, below La Tâche. Some whole bunch to give lift to the clay-grown fruit. Big, broad and fleshy. Fairly solid for a Liger-Belair wine. Sandpaper tannins. (JR)
