Tasting notes
Citrus oils, honeycomb and white flowers on the nose. The palate is exuberant with delicious ripe acidity and mouth-coating/honeyed texture. Flavours of salted caramel, orange zest, and toasted hazelnut. Long lemon-lime finish. Stunning! (Dec 2015), F+R

Aromas of pineapple, baked bread and lees, plus a suggestion of iodiney minerality. Then riper, sweeter and less salty in the mouth than the Frionnes but with penetrating acidity giving the midpalate almost painful cut in the early going. The pure, bracing, building finish shows terrific cut. This will be longlived for Saint Aubin.
The 2014 Saint Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard has a lifted bouquet with plenty of nascent energy: citrus peel, Granny Smith apples, almond and grapefruit that is just beautifully defined. The palate is poised on the entry, with bitter lemon and lemongrass, demonstrating fine weight in the mouth and a long, quite piercing spicy finish that sports an Alsace-like persona (in a positive way). What an intriguing Saint Aubin!
(from white marl soil): Full, healthy yellow. Rather cool aromas and flavors of pineapple, iodine and gunflint. Dense, tactile and ripe, conveying an enticing touch of sucrosité for what is in fact a very dry wine. Finishes smooth, saline and long, with noteworthy mineral force.
