Tasting notes
1.5 ha plot. Earthy nose of dusty cherries. Chalky tannins create a nicely structured frame for crunchy red fruit, wild herbs and mineral richness. Lots going on here but needs some time in the bottle.Dec 2015

Healthy dark red. Black cherry and peppery herbs on the reticent nose. Offers good texture and breadth in a savory style, showing little in the way of easy sweetness to its flavors of redcurrant, cherry, licorice and wild herbs. Finishes with slightly dusty tannins and sneaky length, with repeating notes of licorice and herbs. This wine needs a few years in bottle to unwind--as well as to display the minerality it showed from barrel a year ago.
Full, bright ruby-red. Licorice, violet and crushed-stone minerality on the nose; clearly a wine from soil rich in calcaire . A distinctly taut, mineral style but with surprising density to its energetic, sharply delineated black fruit flavors. Finishes tight but not hard, with serious tactile length and a saline nuance. This wine should offer very good aging potential.
The 2014 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru les Guettes was showing just a touch of reduction on the nose when I tasted it at the domaine. The palate is fleshy and ripe, with grainy tannin cloaked in red and black berry fruit. The oak is showing just a little towards the finish, though that will be assimilated in time. It feels long and sustained in the mouth, and I suspect this will come into its own once in bottle.
