Moderately saturated red. More reticent but deeper on the nose than the Grasses Têtes, offering hints of dark raspberry, menthol, minerals and underbrush. A step up in energy and verve thanks to its distinct mineral element. Finishes sappy, saline and persistent. I'd give this a few years in the cellar to reveal itself more fully.

Deep and dark. Rather tough on the end. Not much fun. (JR)

Bright medium red. Cool aromas of black cherry and menthol. Nicely dense and suave, showing lovely inner-mouth lift and finesse to the sappy flavors of dark berries and soil. Well-integrated acidity and smooth tannins give this Marsannay noteworthy energy and length. Seven of the eight parcels that go into this wine were planted between 1924 and 1932, according to Bruno Clair.

The 2014 Marsannay les Longeroies is a big step up in terms of aromatic complexity from the Longeroies with ebullient blackberry and raspberry, light cola notes, the oak neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent, fine tannin with satisfying tension towards the finish. I like the weight and focus, the way it channels its energy and I suspect it will lie at the top of my score bracket once in bottle.
