(30% new oak): Bright, moderately saturated dark red. Purer on the nose than the Côte de Nuits-Villages, offering aromas of dark cherry, licorice and spices. Juicy and intense in the mouth, showing a darker fruit character than the Côte de Nuits-Villages, as well as a note of bitter chocolate. The serious, chewy finish features ripe, dusty tannins and good saline persistence.

Medium-deep red. Some very ripe hints to the aromas of black raspberry, coffee and mocha. Rich, fat and seamless, with the torrefaction character carrying through on the palate. A very silky, broad village wine with smooth tannins and lovely chocolatey length.

The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is being raised in around 50% new oak. It has a refined bouquet, quite precise and tightly coiled at first, but unrolling with rose petal-tinged red berry fruit, fine mineralité and charm. The palate has plenty of sappy red and black fruit on the entry, a keen line of acidity, fine tannin and palpable density towards the finish. Certainly there is good substance here and there is a lovely touch of white pepper on the aftertaste. This is just a lovely, lovely wine in the making.

80-year-old vines. 1.4 ha in total. Several different parcels. One-third new oak. Lightish crimson. Very flattering on the nose. Rich and aromatic, with a hint of black fruits. Firm on the palate. This should have a good future. Long. (JR)
