Score 89-91/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2016

(the Ligniers are now working these wines organically): Bright ruby-red. Very ripe but a bit subdued, hinting at black raspberry and a bit of apple from the very late malo, which ended in September. This juicy wine displays a slight herbal edge. Still a bit malic and lean and hard to judge. Finishes juicy and firmly tannic, with a crushed-rock character titillating the taste buds.

The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru la Perrière, from purchased grapes, has an intense, granitic bouquet that is quite "serious" and austere, but you cannot deny the delineation here. The palate is marked by dark berry fruit, loganberry and bilberry, well judged acidity and a silky smooth finish that embraces the 25% new oak. This is a very seductive Gevrey.
