I loved the 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin 1Er Cru Champeaux, which has the more up-front, soft, charming style of the vintage front and center. Lots of pretty red fruits, flowers, spice, and subtle earthy nuances give way to a more medium-bodied Gevrey with polished tannins, solid mid-palate density and concentration, and a great finish. It's one of those wines that builds nicely over the evening and grows on you with time in the glass. It's drinking brilliantly today yet should have another decade of prime time.

Bright, dark red. Black cherry, licorice and spices on the nose. Seriously concentrated flavors of raspberry and saline minerality display noteworthy tactile depth and energy. Densely packed, sweet and long, with very suave tannins.

The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru les Champeaux has a gorgeous bouquet with ripe, very floral, rose petal-infused red cherry, wild strawberry and mulberry fruit that gains intensity and confidence in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, tensile and tightly-coiled with a touch of bitter cherry on the tart finish. Engaging, edgy and very focused, this is a superb 2014 from Jean-Marie.

Mid crimson. Light nose. Very cherries on the nose. Pretty tart on the palate. Chewy. Pretty tough. Wait. (JR)
