Good full red. Blackberry, licorice, pepper and wild herbs on the nose. Juicy flavors of wild berries, minerals and licorice are a bit folded in on themselves today and not showing the sweetness or pliancy of the 2015 version. The wine's brisk acidity currently clashes with its tannins, giving the finish a slight dryness. Still, the tannins are less brutal and more melted into the wine's fruit than in previous vintages.

(aged in one-third new and two-thirds one-year-old barrels; the following wines are all aged in 100% new oak; 75% vendange entier ): Dark red-ruby. Wild blackberry, licorice and minerals on the nose. Sweet but quite firm on the palate, and still a bit reduced, with firm-edged acidity and underlying stony minerality leavening the wine's ripe dark chocolate element. Finishes uncompromisingly dry, with a slightly tart edge and fine-grained but youthfully tough tannins.

The 2014 Gevrey Chamberin Les Evocelles contains between 60% and 70% whole bunch fruit. It has an aromatic, perfumed bouquet that is much more expressive than the Vosne-Romanée at present: macerated black cherries mixed with crème de cassis. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, a fine line of acidity, fresh in the mouth with a citrus-like black cherry and bilberry finish. Afford this 3-4 years in the cellar.

75% whole bunch. 67% new oak. Limestone. Mossy and racy on the nose with lots of freshness. Big and round upfront on the palate but compensated for by the raciness. Punchy. (JR)
