The 2014 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru, from 0.32 hectares of vines planted in 1950 and 1951, has a much more generous bouquet compared to the Chambolle-Amoureuses, tensile red cherry and raspberry coulis scents, wet limestone and just a hint of cassis in the background. It is very Clos de la Roche, to put it prosaically. The palate is very harmonious, silky smooth and elegant. There is fine weight in the mouth, though this is more about tension and elegance, with a gorgeous, sensual, satin-like touch to the finish. This could become one of the best wines from this vineyard.

Bright, healthy ruby-red. Sexy, rather wild nose combines dark raspberry, dried flowers and hints of underbrush. Sappy and energetic on the palate, offering penetrating flavors of raspberry, brown spices and earth. This wine was quite sullen when I tasted it from tank a year ago but is juicy and delineated now, and quite transparent to its soil. Finishes with firm but harmonious tannins and excellent length. The best of these Pousse d'Or wines today.

Patrick Ladanger. Jasmine-scented red fruit, very pretty and inviting. A little chewy for now and the oak is still making quite a fresh imprint, but there is exciting tension from start to finish and a bitter-cherry raciness that darts, swallow-like, across the mouth. Very fine tannins pulled as tightly as violin strings. Softly cumin-spiced on a persistent finish. (TC)
