Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru from J L Trapet shows some signs of whole bunch fruit, although there is clearly adequate fruit behind it and it feels harmonious and intense. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a fine bead of acidity and just the right amount of piquancy. This is a relatively approachable grand cru, but it is heightened by its tension and linearity, its laser-like focus. This is very impressive. Tasted September 2017.

Palish medium red. Ripe, musky aromas of redcurrant, plum, smoke, dried flowers and earth. Fat and sweet on entry, then a bit more clenched in the middle, conveying terrific depth to the flavors of cherry, redcurrant and crushed rock. This distinctly salty, soil-driven 2014 finishes with fine-grained tannins and terrific mounting length. Chapelle's warmer terroir often outperforms in cooler vintages.

Saturated medium-deep red. Wild aromas of raspberry, leather and smoked meat. On the palate, harmonious acidity provides shape to the redcurrant, raspberry and soil flavors. Drier and broader than the Capita 1er Cru today but although it's less open-knit, there's nothing hard about it. Finishes with excellent saline length.
